Flying into Charleston International gives you two ways to get a rental car, and they optimize for different things.
The consolidated rental facility at CHS optimizes for immediacy. You walk off the plane, ride the escalator, stand in whatever line exists that day, and leave in a car. If your trip starts with a meeting in North Charleston an hour after landing, that immediacy is worth real money and you should probably just pay it.
A local lot optimizes for the rest of the trip. Our cars sit at 1471 Folly Road, about a half hour from the airport, down where the James Island and Folly Beach vacations actually happen. Getting to us costs you a rideshare. What you get back: you booked a specific car you saw in photos, the full price was itemized before you paid, and for the whole week the "rental office" is ten minutes from your beach house instead of thirty minutes back up the interstate.
The math depends on your trip's shape. A business trip that orbits the airport and the convention center has no reason to come see us. A vacation that lands once, drives to the beach side of town, and stays there for a week is the opposite case: you pass near Folly Road anyway, and the airport counter's location stops being a feature the moment you leave it.
There's also the counter experience itself, which frequent renters already know. The posted rate and the driven-away rate are different animals once facility fees, concession recovery, and the insurance conversation are done with you.
