Kiawah is a gated island at the end of a long road, and that single fact decides most of the logistics of a stay there. You come in on the Kiawah Island Parkway off Betsy Kerrison Parkway, which runs off Bohicket Road on Johns Island. Nothing is around the corner.
Guests who arrive without a car figure this out on day one. Freshfields Village at the entrance covers groceries and dinner, but anything past that's a drive back toward town, and the island itself is spread out enough that walking between the beach, the courses and your rental house isn't the plan.
What to book

The drive from the lot
Folly Road to Maybank Highway, across Johns Island on Bohicket, then Betsy Kerrison to the gate. Around 45 minutes. It's the longest run of any area we serve, which is exactly why most Kiawah renters collect the car at the start of the trip and keep it rather than making that drive twice.
