The pattern repeats every summer and most of the fall. A group books a house on Palm Boulevard or inside Wild Dunes, two people drive down, everybody else flies into Charleston and gets a ride out to the island. It works fine until somebody wants to do something the other five do not.
The Isle of Palms Connector is the only quick way off the island. Once you're past it you're in Mount Pleasant, and downtown is another bridge after that. One car between six people means somebody is always waiting.
The fix is boring
Add a second car for the week. The Range Rover takes the beach load without anybody holding a cooler on their lap: chairs, boards, canopy, the lot. The convertible is the other end of it, and the drive back over the Connector with the top down is the reason people book it in the first place.
If somebody in the group is hauling something bulky, the Silverado EV is on the same lot.
Worth knowing before you book
Most of the fleet runs a three day minimum, which suits a beach week anyway. Renters need to be 21 or older, and the person who books is the person who drives, since the license and card get verified at booking.
Pickup is at 1471 Folly Road on James Island, which is about 35 minutes from Front Beach. That's the longest drive of any area we cover, so collect the car on the way in rather than partway through the week.
More on the geography is on the Isle of Palms page, and Sullivan's Island next door if your group is split across both.
